Kumtor Gold Company (KGC) and Finnish firm Metso have agreed to collaborate in an effort to promote KGC as a national platform for responsible gold mining. The memorandum of understanding aims to establish a foundation for cooperation in implementing KGC’s strategic projects and advancing the metalworking industry in Kyrgyzstan.

The partnership will focus on projects such as the processing of tailings, improving and modernizing gold extraction methods and technological processes using cutting-edge technologies, enhancing eco-friendly gold purification and extraction performance, and implementing advanced technologies for extracting gold from complex and low-grade gold-bearing ores.

Collaboration between the two companies will cover eco-friendly and promising projects in metallurgy using advanced technologies at the Kumtor mine. Metso is a global leader in sustainable development technologies, comprehensive solutions, and services for the production of non-metallic minerals, mineral processing, and metallurgy. The company’s headquarters is located in Espoo, Finland, and it employs over 17,000 people in around 50 countries worldwide. In 2023, Metso’s sales volume reached 5.4 billion euros.
