The 18th meeting of the intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation between Kazakhstan and Iran took place on 27 January 2023 in Astana.

According to the results from the 11 months of 2022, the external trade turnover between the two countries reached $500 million, with exports totalling $307 million and imports totalling $186.1 million. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan, Serik Zhumangarin, emphasized the importance of continuing efforts to expand and strengthen cooperation in order to increase access to goods in both countries markets. This will aid in achieving the goal of raising trade between the two countries to $3 billion.

Additionally, following an investment forum held in Tehran as part of a visit by the President of Kazakhstan to Iran in June 2022, progress has been made on two projects with Iranian companies Iranian Babak Copper Company (MIDHCO) and Dana Investment.
