The Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision of Kyrgyzstan assessed the extraction of minerals at approximately $3 billion last year. Minister Melis Turgunbaev shared this information during the MINEX Central Asia geological forum session held in Bishkek on June 19-20.

According to the Ministry’s data, in 2023, the country’s mineral extraction amounted to around $3 billion. This represents a 102% growth compared to 2022. Major companies focus on extracting gold, oil, and coal.

Before 2021, the average annual gold production was about 15 tons, but since 2022, it has reached 30 tons annually. Copper extraction volumes have also increased, currently remaining around 16,000 tons per year. Coal production exceeded 4 million tons in 2022-2023.

In the first five months of 2024, the industry extracted minerals worth 23 billion soms. Additionally, the production of primary metals is estimated at 80 billion soms, with tax revenues from mining companies exceeding 15 million soms.

According to international assessments, Kyrgyzstan’s mining industry can generate an annual income of over $1 billion. Currently, more than 100 mining enterprises are involved in mineral development in the country.
