Tau-Ken Samruk, a state-owned mining company in Kazakhstan, has announced at MINEX Kazakhstan Forum that a furnace at the Karaganda silicon plant will start operating in the fourth quarter. The project has passed all necessary approvals and the company is borrowing funds for the launch. The plant will be put into operation in October 2023, with one furnace in operation. The Karaganda silicon plant is owned by Tau-Ken Temir, a subsidiary of Tau-Ken Samruk, and has a production capacity of 23,000 tons of technical silicon per year. The plant’s raw material base is the Aktas quartz deposit, owned by Silicon Mining LLP, located in the Ulytau region.
